Thanks to all who attended the opening night of 'Concert Series at the Shed' presented by Taytrix Inc.!
|
The first ever live performance at our recently completed space featured Vicki Genfan, Sally Barker, and Kerstin Blodig and
was a great musical journey through the perspectives of three women from three different countries (the U.S., England, and
Germany, respectively), each with her own unique style and cultural influences. These artists had come together during a
recent European tour, where becoming familiar with each others music had naturally evolved into playing on each others
songs. We were also treated to plenty of great solo moments from all three, and by the end of the evening there really was
an innate sense of each person and her music, and of the three of them as a group.

|
Vicki will be performing again on Sunday, June 30 at 7:00pm, along with Michael Manring and Justin King. Tickets are $15
and due to the limited seating (approx. 65 people) you will need reservations for this show! Please call ahead: 917-825-
6273.

If you haven't had an opportunity to see Vicki play live, get yourself on over, because what she does is as extraordinary
visually as musically. The infectious rhythms created through spectacular techniques such as slapping and tapping in a
variety of open tunings make her a truly unique musical force. It's like she takes one guitar and one voice -- and turns it
into a band! (www.vickigenfan.com)

|
This past February, Vicki and Tay found Justin King at the Folk Alliance Conference in Jacksonville, Fl. While kindred spirits,
in terms of their unusual rhythmic and musical approach to the guitar and composition, it is fair to say that Vicki's jaw did
drop when she came upon Justin. His technical prowess is unbelievable. He hails from Eugene Oregon, and frankly it's
about time we get to meet and hear him here on the east coast!
|
|
Through meeting Justin, we are lucky enough to have the opportunity to invite bassist Michael Manring to perform at this
show, as the two will be sharing the stage the night before in Connecticut. "Building on the conceptions of his teacher, the
late bass legend Jaco Pastorius, Michael has developed an entirely new approach to the instrument that includes
unorthodox tunings, techniques and methodologies." That is an understatement.
|
|
It's pretty clear that the evening is going to be filled with extraordinary treats for the ears and eyes. We're looking forward
to sharing this evening with you and to keeping the concert series going on a monthly basis. We'll keep you informed about
upcoming shows.

What's the Shed?
|
Back in March of 2001, my husband, New York city music producer Daniel Wise met with Tay Hoyle from Taytrix Inc. to
talk about building a new recording studio on top of a building in Manhattan. Everyone thought he was crazy, but months
of hard labor later, the basic floor was added. Tay , goddess of recording studio design and all things sonic, was on
board to create the studio itself -- for the live room, commissioning 20 ft cathedral ceilings, a rock wall, sound diffusers
that look like sculptures, and many other 'Tay' fine tunings. The final outcome is a space that looks and feels like a
sanctuary.
|
|
|
So- when Tay came to us with the request to have Taytrix present a concert series, it was evident to all of us that besides
being a great live recording room, it would be an amazing place to hold performances. Thus, 'Concert Series At the Shed '
was born, with a part house concert, part art gallery in the woods kind of feel, and we're excited to have a venue where
the truly alternative musician flourish!
